The Release Date Moves Again

With news finally starting to roll out regarding the sequel, the latest update confirms that the release date for M3GAN 2.0 has been moved again. Just a few weeks after the sequel's release date was pushed to summer 2025 to capitalize on its blockbuster potential, M3GAN 2.0's release date has now been shifted a month later to June 27, 2025. No reason for the move has been given, but Blumhouse and Universal have shifted the release dates of other horror films like The Black Phone 2 in recent weeks.

Though it was initially slated to release in January 2025, the anticipated horror sequel was moved to May 16th, 2025 before finally settling on June 27, 2025 as its official release date. The film had previously been affected by the Hollywood strikes of 2023, but it seemed certain to keep its original release plan. However, the latest release date shift isn't likely due to production issues, but instead an intentional move to give M3GAN 2.0 the best chance at the box office.

Gemma (Allison Williams) and Cady (Violet McGraw) were the M3GAN main characters and miraculously, they both survived their encounter with the killer AI doll. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that they're the first characters confirmed to be returning in M3GAN 2.0. As for the rest of the original cast, it hasn't even been confirmed whether Jenna Davis will return to voice the titular doll, and few of the other characters made it out alive. A new cast member has been added though, as Ahsoka star Ivanna Sakhno has been tapped to play a major role.

What Will Happen When M3GAN Returns?

Though M3GAN doesn’t have a post-credits scene, its ending teases more to come, with M3GAN having transferred her AI processing system to Elsie, Gemma’s virtual home assistant. M3GAN may take on a new form, branching out into multiple tech gadgets to infiltrate Gemma’s home. With the AI doll’s body destroyed at the end of M3GAN, M3GAN will likely look a lot different in the horror sequel. For a while, M3GAN could be learning as much as she can in her new form before figuring out a way to either possess a new titanium body or take the form of a newly created robot.

Whatever M3GAN looks like in the future, she will surely want revenge on Gemma and Cady for trying to destroy her. If she continues developing her emergent abilities, M3GAN could lash out and become even more dangerous. With the power of other technologies under her control too, the doll could turn her attention to the world beyond M3GAN's Gemma and Cady. However, she may also want to continue protecting Cady as her original programming intended. Either way, the potential of M3GAN 2.0 could go anywhere, and that’s exciting.
